Beyond Seeing

Is looking the same as seeing? What do we really see when we look? How much do our judgements, values and internal perceptions effect what we see? Looking is not seeing or is it?

I used all of these questions and more as my muse in creating “Beyond Seeing”.

One’s life experience plays a big role is our interpretations of what we see. We are also conditioned to look at some things and virtually ignore others as we peer into the vast and complex scene in front of us.

One thing that is always there is some part of nature. More often for most of us who live amongst other people whether in a large city or a small village, we view nature through a scrim that impacts our views of the natural world. These paintings are my attempt to respond to the reality of seeing the natural world through this obfuscation.
